In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Praise be to Allah, the Kind, the All-Aware, and prayers and peace be upon the Warner and Bearer of good tidings, our Prophet Muhammad, and upon all his family and companion.

A strong and devastating earthquake has struck vast areas of north Syria and south Turkey resulting in hundreds of deaths, thousands of injuries, and millions of homeless people.

The Syrian Islamic Council, on this devastating disaster, states the following:

First: The Council extends its condolences to the Syrian and Turkish people, and prays to God to give serenity to the families of the victims and the injured and to compensate them well.

Second: The Council urges Muslims everywhere to resort to God the Almighty by repentance, seeking forgiveness, and praying that He lifts the distress and helps us through this hardship.

Third: The Council calls upon all our fellow Syrian citizens to help each other, have mercy, and cooperate together in such hard situations. It reminds them that it is our Islamic duty to do everything we can, including sharing food, even if it is scarce, and medicine, with priority to the neediest, and providing shelter, especially under such harsh conditions of cold, rain and snow. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, says, “The merciful ones will be shown mercy by the Most Merciful. Be merciful to those on earth and He who is in the heavens will have mercy on you.”

Fourth: The Council appeals to the governments, organizations and nations of the Muslim World to give a hand of help and assistance to those afflicted areas that are now in need of all forms of technical, medical, food and other kinds of support, and calls upon the Syrians abroad to organize assistance campaigns for their afflicted brothers inside Syria.

In conclusion, we pray God to grant his mercy to the martyrs and make paradise their residence, to provide soon recovery of the wounded and injured, and to shelter the homeless; verily, he is the Generous and the Benevolent. And we conclude by Parise to God the Lord of the Worlds.
