The Syrian Islamic Council in conjunction with most of the actors in the Syrian affairs and national dignitaries announced in a press conference in Istanbul on Friday morning the document of the .five principles of the Syrian Revolution

The Council has announced during the conference the adoption of the five principles proclaimed in the document signed by the major judicial bodies, revolutionary factions, civil society organizations, local councils and the national figures and symbols, as one of the basic conditions for any political solution or international initiative. The principles contained in the document included overthrowing the Assad regime, the dismantling of the security agencies, the departure of all foreign forces from the Syrian territory, the preservation of the unity and national identity of Syria, with the rejection of all kinds of secterian-based power sharing.

The member of the Trustees Council, Dr. Hassan Safadi, emphasized during the presentation of the document, that “the Syrians would not give up their legitimate national and human rights which are guaranteed by Islam and heavenly laws and by international laws and regulations”. Al-Safadi said that “any approach to a political solution negotiations which does not take into account the aspirations of the Syrian people , would be an absurd act. He added that any effort to resolve the Syrian issue which doesn’t stem from the principles contained in the document” will not get the acceptance of the Syrian people.”

The document dealt with the failure of the UN Security Council to defend the Syrian people, pointing to the attempts to “rehabilitate the regime” and make it a part of the future of Syria, overlooking the “horrific massacres” committed by Assad and his regime. The document pointed out, for the signatory powers, their adherence to the parameters of the Syrian Revolution, considering that compromising any of the principles is would be deemed as negligence against the Syrians and “an insult to their blood and sacrifice.”

Regarding the importance of the document, Safadi said in reply to a question by one of the audience, that the internationalization of the Syrian issue requires re-taking the lead by the Syrians and unite their word, “pointing out that the Council is determined not to allow the Syrians Revolution to get lost among the” corridors of politics. “

On the other hands, Safadi stressed that the importance of the document stems from the role of the signatories, at their various orientations and their specialties in revolutionary work, for they include the prominent civil, military and relief agencies, and the most prominent political and revolutionary bodies, with a number of important figures.

It is noteworthy that the number of signatories on the document reached about 74 revolutionary bodies and about 52 important figures The conference was attended by figures representing political, civic and religious organizations of the Syrian Revolution together with a group of journalists from several revolutionary media organizations.
